Changes to influenza immunisation ordering and delivery process in 2026

The Immunisation Distribution Service (IDS) will implement changes to the ordering process for State and National Immunisation Program funded influenza immunisations for the 2026 season.

Automatic allocations and weekly ordering cycles will no longer occur. Instead, all Immunisation Service Providers (ISPs) must submit a pre-order to IDS to secure supply. Deliveries will be scheduled across two rollout periods. ISPs will need to submit their pre-order within the specified timeframe to guarantee supply during the rollout periods. For any new ISPs registered after the ordering period closes, IDS will request order quantities upon registration.

Following the completion of both rollout stages, ISPs will transition back to routine fortnightly ordering for all immunisations, including influenza. Additional influenza vaccines cannot be ordered during the rollout periods.

While IDS will endeavour to provide the requested doses, quantities may need to be adjusted to maintain equitable supply across all ISPs. Any amendments to order quantities will be communicated directly to the ISP via email.

These changes are being introduced to meet the growing demand for influenza vaccines across Queensland. This structured approach ensures timely and reliable deliveries while enabling IDS and our logistics partners to plan and manage resources efficiently. With more than 2,800 registered ISPs statewide, this change is essential for a coordinated rollout.

A communication outlining these changes will be emailed to all Queensland registered Immunisation Service Providers (ISPs) on 19 December 2025, with a further reminder sent on 23 December 2025. Additionally, in early 2026 IDS will communicate to ISPs via email and include printed flyers in routine immunisation orders. These communications will outline the new ordering process and include a copy of the 2026 influenza pre-order form.

Future updates, including the ordering process and rollout commencement dates, will be published on the Queensland Health website: order, store and manage immunisation medicines

ISPs with queries regarding these changes should email IDS at QHIP-ADMIN@health.qld.gov.au.
