2026 Free Flu Vaccination Program in Queensland

The 2026 Queensland Free Flu Vaccination Program will commence from 1 March 2026 as vaccine stock becomes available and concludes on 30 September 2026.

Every opportunity should be taken to offer influenza vaccination to all Queenslanders from 6 months of age. The 2026 Queensland Free Flu Vaccination Program is available to all Queensland residents, including those without a Medicare card. There is no change for people eligible to receive a free influenza vaccine under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) and they will continue to receive a NIP-funded vaccine as usual.

Ordering 2026 influenza vaccines

Influenza Vaccines should continue to be ordered through your usual processes.

For NIP eligible people and for children eligible for FluMist under the 2026 Queensland Nasal Spray Flu Immunisation Program, registered immunisation providers should continue to order funded vaccines directly from the Queensland Health Immunisation Program.

For people not eligible for the NIP or FluMist program, immunisation providers should administer influenza vaccines from their privately purchased stock. Providers should keep in mind any remaining/unadministered stock from the current season will not be reimbursed.

There are significant changes to how the Queensland Immunisation Distribution Service (IDS) will manage the State and National Immunisation Program funded influenza vaccines in 2026.

Both ordering and delivery processes will change, and immunisation service providers (ISPs) will be required to follow a new pre-ordering process to receive funded influenza immunisations.

Why is it changing?

To meet growing demand across Queensland, IDS will introduce a planned pre-ordering process with a two-stage delivery approach.  This structured process will:

  • ensure timely and reliable deliveries to your service
  • allow IDS and logistics partners to plan and manage resources efficiently.

With over 2,800 registered ISPs statewide, this change is essential for a smooth rollout.

Future updates, including the ordering process and rollout commencement dates, will be published on the Queensland Health website: order, store and manage immunisation medicines

ISPs with queries regarding these changes should email IDS at QHIP-ADMIN@health.qld.gov.au.
