Practice Incentive Program (PIP) and Practice Workforce Incentive Program – Doctor Stream (WIP)
The Practice Incentives Program (PIP) encourages general practices to continue providing quality care, enhance capacity, and improve access and health outcomes for patients.
Practice Incentive Program (PIP)
There are eight individual incentives within the PIP. To be eligible for the Practice Incentives Program, a practice must meet the criteria listed below:
- be a general practice as defined by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP)
- be an open practice as defined by the PIP
- be accredited, or registered for accreditation, against the RACGP Standards for general practices
- maintain at least $10 million in public liability insurance cover
- have professional indemnity insurance cover for all general practitioners and nurse practitioners.
Workforce Incentive Program (WIP)
The Workforce Incentive Program (WIP) Practice Stream encourages multidisciplinary and team-based models of care. The program provides financial incentives to general practices to engage a range of health professionals, including:
- nurses
- midwives
- allied health professionals
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers and health practitioners.
When a practice participates in the Practice Stream, it must report to Services Australia on the health professionals it is engaging and their average weekly hours.
Eligible practices
Practices that are eligible for the WIP Practice Stream are:
- general practices
- Aboriginal Medical Services
- Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services
There are specific eligibility requirements for this payment, these include:
- general practice accreditation requirements
- employment of at least one full-time or part-time general practitioner
- engagement of at least one eligible health professional
- eligibility for the Practice Incentives Program (PIP) – if a PIP consenting practice
- a specified amount of public liability insurance, as set out in the guidelines.
