The RACGP have included a military and veteran health unit in the syllabus. The resources from DVA, VETs HeLP, and RACGP check can help cover the skills, knowledge and attitudes expected of GPs working in military and veteran health.
DVA Coordinated Veterans’ Care Program (CVC)
The Department of Veterans’ Affairs has a website to support health professionals participating in the DVA CVC program. This website contains all information about the program including eligibility, how to claim, the role of a GP and practice nurse, and how to contact the CVC team.
The DVA CVC Toolbox contains information to build a care plan for an enrolled veteran.
VETs HeLP
DVA have worked with Medcast to create the Veterans Healthcare eLearning Platform (VETs HeLP). VETs HeLP provides free, CPD-accredited learning opportunities that cover key aspects of caring for veterans and their families. VETs HeLP includes webinars by experienced health care providers, interactive learning modules, blogs, and podcasts covering topics such as: understanding the veteran experience and transition to civilian life, mental health and complex mental health, chronic pain, and setting up a CVC program. Each one includes practical information on DVA billing, processes, services and claims relating to the topic.
