Any remaining doses from these batches must be discarded after expiry and submit an Immunisation discard or transfer form. The Queensland Health Immunisation Program has FluMist stock with a 7 August 2026 expiry and is available to order via usual ordering processes.
It's not too late to vaccinate!
Providers are asked to:
- Optimise use of current FluMist, prioritising stock with the shortest expiry dates
- Transfer stock between provider sites where feasible, to minimise wastage
- Take every opportunity to offer FluMist to:
- Young children aged 2 to 5 years
- Children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years who struggle with needles

Recent widespread mobile and data network outages highlight the importance of maintaining routine manual refrigerator temperature monitoring to ensure vaccine cold chain integrity.
Immunisation providers are reminded:
- Manual monitoring is a core requirement under the National Vaccine Storage Guidelines: Strive for 5.
- To check and sight temperatures whenever their vaccine refrigerator(s) is accessed.
- To record current, minimum and maximum temperatures at least twice daily, resetting after each check, and maintain clear documentation in accord with Strive for 5.
- Not to rely solely on SMS, app-based, or remote data logger alerts, as these may be delayed or unavailable during network disruptions.
- To report cold chain breaches to the Queensland Health Immunisation Program, using the Cold Chain Breach Reporting Form and submitted to QHIP-ADMIN@health.qld.gov.au.
Manual checks and documentation remain the primary safeguard for cold chain integrity.
