Metro North Health patient services Refer your patient

Health professionals can visit the Metro North Health Refer your patient to find service and referral information for the following services: 

  • community health  
  • Rapid Access  
  • mental health 
  • oral health 
  • sexual health and HIV 
  • alcohol and drug 
  • Behavioural Emergency Response Team (BERT)
  • palliative care

 Via the refer your patient website, GPs can also: 

  • search specialist outpatient services and specialist lists 
  • access the Health Provider Portal and Brisbane North HealthPathways 
  • view information about GP Smart Referrals and the GP Liaison Program 
  • search for education and upcoming events

Metro North Virtual Emergency Care Service offers alternative pathways that can help avoid your patient waiting in an emergency department (ED).  

The Virtual Emergency Care Service (VECS) provides Queensland General Practitioners (GPs) with access to specialist emergency medicine advice by telephone or live streamed video-conference.

It is a safe, fast and efficient way for you to consult with an emergency physician and use real-time technology to align treatment and ongoing services for your patient.

Metro North Health Clinical Advice Line connects local GPs to specialist advice from hospital and community clinicians. There are two pathways: 

  1. Phone line - 1800 569 099 (Mon to Fri 8:30am - 4:00pm)
  2. Written request for advice

The Residential Aged Care District and Referral Service (RADAR) is available for consultation regarding residents from residential aged care facilities (RACFs). RACF staff are encouraged to contact their local RADAR teams seven days a week within hours. RADAR are happy to receive a phone call and discuss individual residents working together with the resident, their family/carers, GPs, Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) and community providers to ensure better health outcomes.

RADAR services include: 

  • specialist consultative services (medical, nursing and pharmacy) for RACF residents
  • advice for management of residents in their RACF 
  • medication management – senior pharmacist review 
  • complex case management and support to RACFs to manage issues such as behaviours, and frequent emergency department (ED) presentations 
  • COVID-19 support for GPs caring for residents in RACFs
