Australian Immunisation Register (AIR)
Increasing immunisation coverage is a national priority for PHNs. We work closely with primary health care providers to maintain and increase immunisation coverage across our region.
The Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) is a national register that records vaccines given to all people in Australia. The AIR includes vaccines given under the National Immunisation Program, through school programs and privately, such as for influenza or travel.
You can use the AIR to:
- Find out someone’s immunisation status, regardless of who immunised them
- Print an immunisation history statement to prove their immunisation status for child care, school, employment or travel purposes
Recognised vaccination providers can:
- Record patient immunisation information
- Update or correct some data already sent to the AIR
- Request reports to help identify any patients due or overdue for a vaccination
- Report immunisation medical exemptions online— if you’re eligible to do this
- Get information payments for the provision of certain vaccinations—if you’re eligible to do this
Health professionals can access the AIR through HPOS using a PRODA account. Please visit our training and education pages for access to learning resources.
Changes to Influenza reporting in AIR
The Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) has introduced annual due and overdue rules for influenza vaccines. Effective 28 April 2026, these changes will help vaccination providers identify individuals who may be eligible for free influenza vaccines under the National Immunisation Program (NIP). The AIR will also issue reminder letters to eligible people who become overdue for an influenza vaccination.
The due and overdue rules will be applied each year for individuals eligible for a NIP funded influenza vaccine, including:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over
- Children aged 6 months to under 5 years
- People aged 65 years or over.
AIR Rules:
If an influenza vaccine has not been administered since 1 March of the current year, a dose is:
- due on 1 May
- overdue on 1 June.
Individuals will no longer display as due or overdue for influenza after 31 January of the following year.
