Newborn Bloodspot Screening
The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has undertaken a review of the current processes and pathways for clinicians accessing newborn bloodspot (NBS) results.
Currently, Pathology Queensland NBS results for babies born in Queensland Health facilities are accessible within Queensland Health through the Laboratory Information System (AUSLAB), AUSCARE and The Viewer, a Queensland Health application.
The Viewer is available to all eligible practitioners in Queensland who have registered to use the platform. It is also accessible to eligible practitioners outside the state's public health system, such as general practitioners, who can obtain read-only access via the Health Provider Portal. Eligible practitioners wishing to seek more information and/or to register for The Viewer may do so here.
Babies not born in Queensland Health facilities results are only available in AUSLAB and only sent to GPs as extra copies when requested. Practitioners who require BNS results for babies not born in Queensland Health facilities can contact Pathology Queensland directly on 07 3646 7051 or via email at NNSU.Pathology@health.qld.gov.au and request copies of the results.
Please contact Queensland's clinical support NBS team via QldNewbornBloodsportScreeningProgram@health.qld.gov.au should you require any further information.
