Changes to Ahpra annual registration renewal
Ahpra has now opened the annual registration renewal in the new case management system for medical practitioners who hold general or specialist registration.
Changes to renewal this year
Ahpra registration renewal looks different for practitioners this year. Before they renew, practitioners will need to log into the new Ahpra portal, where they will find their registration information including the renewal smart form. The new system has multifactor authentication to protect the highly sensitive information we hold, so practitioners need to link an authenticator app to their Ahpra portal. We recommend the free Google Authenticator app, but practitioners can also use other authenticator apps.
Ahpra recently completed the renewal campaign for nurses and midwives in the new system. While 96.9% of nurses and midwives successfully apply for renewal (compared to 96.8% in the old system in the previous year), there were technical and service issues for practitioners. Ahpra are confident of a better experience for medical practitioners.
40% of medical practitioners already set up with an Ahpra portal.
Supports for practitioners
For practitioners, Ahpra have refined the support offered during the previous renewal campaigns, including:
- An expanded online help centre, including videos and FAQ: https://www.ahpra.gov.au/Support/Ahpra-portal-help-centre/Portal-access-support.aspx
- Pre-campaign emails reminding practitioners of the email username needed to log into their Ahpra portal
- More than double the customer service offering to a normal renewal campaign
- A 24/7 chatbot, with escalation to a live technical support team during business hours.
